Boris Malkovsky is an outstanding Israeli (Born in Odessa) composer, pianist and bayan master (bayan is a button accordion). Debuted for the NY based label Tzadik (John Zorn) 2007 with "Time Petah-Tiqva" and appears as a shining example in its Radical Jewish Culture series of recordings.
Malkovsky melds modern and postmodern compositional techniques, Gypsy, Jazz and Israeli folk, and improvisational music .Strident tempos, dissonant counterpoint, and real boogie-woogie piano lines and the bayan sprints up and down the minor scale. Boris Malkovsky was selected for showcase Womex 2009 in Copenhagen and performs all over Europe and USA with musicians based in Europe, USA and Israel.
Boris performed in many jazz, folklore, modern music and chamber music festivals: Inzada- Brussels (1995), Kfar Blum (1997), Abu-Gosh (1998), Klezmer Zfat (2004), KlezMore Vienna (2006, 2008, 2010), Jazz Globus Jerusalem (2007), Beijing Folk Song Festival (2008), Jewish Culture Festival Antwerp (2008) ,The Gebouw Amsterdam, WOMEX 2009 Copenhagen, Music without Borders - Millenium Park, Chicago USA 2010, Poland and the Czech republic to name a few.
Boris began to perform in public in late 80's as a jazz pianist, later also as an accordionist In 1989 moved to Moscow, in 1991 - to Tel-Aviv. Boris took part in more then 30 recordings of jazz, folk, world, contemporary and pop music productions. During 1998-2006 he participated in more than 50 theater projects with leading theaters in Israel. Arranger and co-producer of Moscow Art Trio with Norwegian Chamber orchestra, released at 2008 by Jaro Records.
"Time Petah Tiqva" was originally commissioned by the Tel Aviv Chamber Music ensemble for members of the Israel Philharmonic orchestra. Boris Malkovsky performs on Bayan together with the international acclaimed Israeli Contemporary String Quartet (ICSQ) www.icsq.net.
Boris Malkovsky with ICSQ were selected to perform at showcase in WOMEX 2009.
Boris is sharing his time in Europe and Israel and has founded a jazz trio from Poland.
