 Rali Margalit
The Cellist and composer Rali Margalit is a familiar figure within the ethnic music scene in Israel and abroad. She is a unique female composer, in a field where most artists are male. She composes and plays with the "Compas" flamenco group, Renana Raz dance group and was among the founders of the Jebalyo ensemble with the Kurdish singer Ilana Elya and played with the East-West Ensemble and the Bustan Avraham group.
Rali Margalit has released two albums of her original compositions "5 works" in 2005 and "Soosim" released in 2010 at the label Magda - www.magda.co.il, finding its place in the crossroads between Classical and Ethnic music. Margalit's musical approach is regarded as unique, since her compositions are not based on existing musical structures and traditions, but stems directly from extra-musical sources of inspiration, mainly from Hebrew prose as well as poetry.
Rali Margalit performs with percussion, kanun and flute and has in short time entered the international music scene, Kaunas Jazz festival, Poland, Italy and several festivals in Israel and national radio shows.

Rali Margalit weaves the fabric of her artistic work from her life experience and the environment of which she has been part, her birthplace, a kibbutz, the Middle-Eastern with its plethora of cultures and musical traditions, classical music and mastery of the cello. Margalit graduated in 1989 from the Rubin Academy of Music in Jerusalem, but her curiosity and openness to music led her to play almost every kind of music.

Rali's work deals with nostalgia and simplicity, belonging and continuity, a continuity which does not exist in her family where the chain of generations has been broken time and again over the last four generations.
Rali Margalit plays the cello and a NEW and unique instrument called Cell-hu, made especially for her by Australian spikefiddle maker Peter Biffin.
