The SHEBA CHOIR was established in 1991 by the master musician SHLOMO GRONICH, who has continued to serve as artistic director and solo performer with this unique group. The choir consists of children from the Ethiopian Jewish community, mostly new immigrants.
The repertoire includes original music composed by Gronich and based on the inspiring rhythms and melodies of Ethiopian music brought over by the children, traditional Jewish music, and original songs and tunes that deal with reality and tales from the children's lives.
The SHEBA CHOIR offers a new encounter of musical expressions, thus creating an original and exciting presence on stage. The combination of the nuances of the children's voices and Gronich's own particular musical style is a unique fusion in Israeli music, and represents the ideal aspects of cultural and social integration.
The first "Shlomo Gronich & the Sheba Choir" album was released in May, 1993.
Gronich considers this project one of the most important landmarks in his prolific musical career.

"Yediot Aharonot" - Amos Oren: ". . . Gronich finds a rare connection - musically fascinating and stirring in its power of expression between himself and the children. It is a naive, pure, and heart-warming project. You can't go wrong with Ehud Manor's lyrics and Gronich's tunes, combining the Ethiopian sound with the vast variety of flavors, shades and aromas which comprise Israeli music".
